Cars have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Some were practical necessities, others objects of desire, and a few were memorable for reasons that had very little to do with their mechanical qualities.
From modest beginnings to classic British sports cars, Mercedes-Benz grand tourers and the occasional indulgence, each has left its own impression. I've enjoyed their engineering, admired their design and occasionally discovered that owning something beautiful doesn't necessarily mean life will become easier.
This collection brings together the cars I've owned, the adventures they've taken me on and the stories that have accumulated along the way. Some are nostalgic, some amusing, and a few involve decisions that seemed perfectly sensible at the time.
They're not conventional car reviews. They're chapters from a life in which the automobile has frequently played a supporting role — and occasionally stolen the entire show.
